For Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph), the online home of YES! magazine, the year 2011 was marked by many peaks. PEP reached an all-time high of 37 million page views and 2.2 million unique users in December 2011—an impressive jump from the 22 million page views and 1.5 million unique users it garnered exactly a year prior.
The past year also saw PEP strengthening its mobile presence through the launch of m.pep.ph, its lighter, made-for-mobile interface. The mobile-friendly version has quickly become an indispensable tool for on-the-go showbiz fans, with mobile readership amounting to 18% of PEP’s total page view count by the end of 2011.
From a monthly traffic of 25 million page views and 1.3 million unique users in 2010, PEP capped off 2011 with a monthly average of 28 million page views and 1.7 million unique users.
According to online audience measurement authority Effective Measure, PEP now ranks as the 23rd most visited website in the country, a mighty climb from the 32nd spot in November 2011.
PEP General Manager Marilyn See points to a winning formula that governs the PEP team’s work ethic as the key to their success. “PEP remains to be the leader in delivering entertainment news mainly because of three things: speed of delivering news, accuracy of information in our reports, and the credibility of our editorial team, under the leadership of (YES! Editor-in-Chief) Jo-Ann Maglipon,” See says.
This professional credo finds its way to PEP’s coverage of the Rhian Ramos-Mo Twister leaked video, the Jolina Magdangal-Mark Escueta wedding, and the developments in the Ramgen Revilla murder case—three of the stories that racked up the most views in December.
As the PEP team welcomes a new year, plans are in place to further enhance their readers’ browsing experience, such as the impending launch of a PEP app for Apple and Android devices and a redesign scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.
