Philippine Entertainment Portal (www.pep.ph), the online partnership between Summit Media and GMA New Media, is now the 67th highest-ranked website in the country, according to Alexa.com as of June 25, 2007.
To put it in context, among the top local news websites in the country are inquirer.net (30th), philstar.com (79th), and mb.com.ph (150th). The top three sites are foreign--Yahoo, Friendster, and YouTube. Among the top lifestyle sites are pinoyexchange.com (89th) and clickthecity.com (121st).
Formally launched in February this year, PEP's growth has been tremendous. According to the site’s Google Analytics data, PEP has generated 17,142,913 pageviews and 521,238 unique visitors from May 25 to June 24.
"The thirst for local gossip by Filipinos all over the world is unquenchable," says Edna Belleza, PEP's General Manager. "Certainly, the growth was pushed by the latest news on Kris, Ruffa, and Gretchen. But, since the news died down, we've been doing an average of 700,000 a day after last week. It's becoming a daily habit for Pinoys and we haven't even pushed the promotions of the site."
Belleza says to expect many more upgrades in the following months, specifically in community features. "Visitors can expect many exciting things that will make the community more active. What we will be doing will really be a first in this local digital space."
