Maine Mendoza is a paradox in many ways: she does the wackiest things on national TV, yet remains shy in real life; she is all over billboards and the media, yet seems unspoiled by her fame. Now, she gives fans a chance to get to know the real Maine—the one who comes out when the cameras aren’t rolling.

Out soon from Summit Books is Yup, I Am That Girl by Maine Mendoza, a book which reveals the real story of the kengkoy newcomer who cemented herself as Pinoy showbiz’s sweetheart in 2015 thanks to a few Dubsmash videos. From her family life and growing-up years to her showbiz journey and life’s hopes and dreams, Maine dishes heartfelt truths about herself in this book, written in conversational prose with jokes generously thrown in—as you’d expect from the lovably kengkoy star.

“When I was around 13 years old, I secretly dreamt of becoming a showbiz personality and seeing myself on billboards and in magazines,” confides Maine in Yup, I Am That Girl. “But I knew it was far-fetched because of my ‘mahiyain’ personality.” A victorious Maine then declares, “Ta-da! Look at where I am now. Akalain mo nga naman. Puwede rin pala, no?’ Who would have thought I could live out this fantasy? Kaya I am telling you guys, nothing’s impossible in this world—not even your wildest dreams! Puwedeng-puwede ’yang matupad.

Maine shot to fame in April 2015 when she uploaded a video of herself lip-syncing as Kris Aquino via the mobile app Dubsmash on Facebook. Within 24 hours, the video reached one million views and almost 60,000 likes on Facebook, which prompted her to continue making Dubsmash videos with the sheer intention of making people happy. It wasn’t long before the team behind Eat Bulaga—the longest-running noontime show in the Philippines—caught wind of the social media star and invited her to audition. In July 2015, she made her debut on the show’s “Juan For All, All For Juan” segment as Yaya Dub, and the rest is history.

Yup, I Am That Girl will soon be available in newsstands, bookstores, convenience stores, and supermarkets nationwide for P295. Each copy comes with eight free exclusive mini-photos of Maine for fans to collect.
