This September, fans of Korean pop culture are sure to be swept off their feet as Summit Books unveils its newest collection of delightful pocket romances. Coming to Philippine bookstores this month is Kimchi Press, the latest imprint from Summit Books which publishes English translations of popular and well-loved Korean novels that were adapted into drama series and movies.
Kimchi Press starts strong with debut release My Name is Kim Sam Soon, based on the Korean novel that inspired the hit TV series which made its way to Philippine TV in 2005 and again in 2009. The book tells the story of Sam Soon, a recently dumped pastry chef who, out of dire financial need, strikes a deal that has her pretending to be the girlfriend of her boss Do Yeong, a good piano player, a good kisser—and a total pessimist when it comes to love. Together, the unlikely partners get caught in a tumultuous, hilarious web of bitter pretense and sweet love.
My Name is Kim Sam Soon is written by South Korean author Ji Su-Hyun and translated into English by Kimchi Press, with illustrations by Choi Je Hee.
Kimchi Press is the latest among Summit Books fiction imprints that have been taking Philippine bookstores by storm. Launched in 2013 is Pop Fiction, the highly successful online fiction brand that brings to print works previously posted on social publishing site Wattpad, while just a month old is Sizzle, Summit Books’ daring foray into erotic romance.
Kimchi Press’s My Name is Kim Sam Soon by Ji Su-Hyun is now available in bookstores nationwide for only P250, with digital copies also available via the Buqo app. Stay tuned as Kimchi Press brings forth more K-dramas-turned books!
