ELLE Decoration Philippines April 2013This April, ELLE Decoration Philippines invites you to celebrate the sparkling summer season with inspiring stories that shine a spotlight on ways to live it up outdoors. “Of course, for the best examples of indoor-outdoor living, you need to look no further than our Homes section. Our wonderful group of featured homeowners excel at linking indoor and outdoor spaces and creating a sweet, superb flow in between,” writes ELLE Decoration Editor-in-Chief Becky Kho in her editor’s note.

Gracing this month’s cover is the Cebu home of noted furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, which captures the spirit of bringing the outside in, and the inside out. Constructed on several levels, his abode is reminiscent of our very own rice terraces. While his home is furnished with his own creations, Kenneth also celebrates the skills of local artisans such as designer Budji Layug and architect Royal Pineda. “Space and volume are essential for us. […] The house has a lot of windows and open spaces that bring the outside inside and the inside outside. We move easily from one to the other,” Kenneth says of his design philosophy for his Cebu residence.

Also featured in this month’s issue is designer-ceramist Jonathan Adler and writer Simon Doonan’s Shelter Island, New York dream home. “The house was tilted to face the lighthouse and we feel as though we almost conjured up the lighthouse ourselves. It’s just perfectly placed,” says Jonathan. Knowing they wanted something different from the grand beach mansions down in the Hamptons, their custom-built weekend home exudes an optimistic playfulness. Filled with his own creations, Adler describes his design as: “Warm modernism was the mandate here. It’s all about letting the materials be what they are.”

In addition, the April issue features the Carribean home of Marianne Brandi and Keld Mikkelsen, the couple behind fashion and homeware label Day Birger et Mikkelsen; the colorful Glasgow pad of Fi Douglas, the textile designer behind the homeware brand Bluebellgray; and wine-and-dine options for never-ending summer repasts in Let Nature Play Host, as written and styled by ELLE Decoration Philippines Home and Market Editor Devi De Veyra.

The April issue of ELLE Decoration Philippines is available in upscale bookstores and newsstands for P200 and digitally through Newsstand and Zinio. For more details, log on to www.summitnewsstand.com.ph and follow us on Instagram at Instagram.com/elledecoph and Twitter at Twitter.com/ELLEDecoPH.
