Shaving the side of her head was her idea. The elusive 90s It Girl Mai Mai Cojuangco returns to the Philippines for a visit, and sits down with Esquire magazine to talk about her new pursuits. In the 90s, Mai Mai was “the image of poise, class and elegance, impervious to wayward fashion trends and always maintaining a polite distance like only the truly stylish ever manage. Also in the issue, an oral history from the children who lived with the deposed president Marcos and his first lady Imelda during their exile in Hawaii. Nearly three decades after the revolution that drove them away, the kids who were uprooted from their unpoliticized lives in the Philippines to move to Hawaii tell the stories of learning about life beyond Imelda’s tenets of truth, goodness and beauty. Exclusive interviews with Rita, Philip, Cathy and Anthony Nazareno; Marv Nazareno-Miranda; Georgina “Chiquita” Ramos; and Toni Baltazar, wherein they recall driving Imelda around Oahu, attending parties, and meeting international dignitaries and celebrities. It was a time they would look back to with great affection, their youth in Hawaii, isolated from information/disinformation/misinformation. This is a portrait of the Marcoses previously unseen.
