English Only, Please

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2014 2nd Best Picture English Only, Please starring Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado returns in a new form to bring the lighthearted laughs and contagious kilig back to fans!

Out now from Summit Books is English Only, Please, a novelization by Abigail Millicent Mendoza based on the MMFF 2014 Best Screenplay by Antoinette Jadaone and Anj Pessumal. Written in Taglish, the novel delightfully captures the relatable comedy and charming romance that have endeared the film to Filipino viewers all over the country and beyond.

English Only, Please tells the tale of two brokenhearted souls, New York-based Fil-Am Julian Parker and Filipino-English tutor Tere Madlansacay. Julian flies to Manila with the goal of reciting the Filipino translation of his scathing letter to his ex-girlfriend with the help of Tere, who herself is struggling with her own romantic drama with her on-and-off boyfriend. As Julian and Tere spend more time together, they discover that they’re both fools in love, and eventually form an understanding that goes beyond their language lessons.

Besides winning 2nd place Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the MMFF 2014, English Only, Please also took home the following awards: Best Actor (Derek Ramsay), Best Actress (Jennylyn Mercado), Best Director (Dan Villegas), Best Story (Antoinette Jadaone and Dan Villegas), and Best Editor (Marya Ignacio). Following its Philippine release at the MMFF from December 25, 2014 to January 2015, it was shown in theaters in the United States and Canada in February 2015.
