July09_magcover_Cosmopolitan.jpgOne of the most well-known poses of today is the Cosmopolitan cover pose: a hand on one hip as the other hand flirtatiously raises the skirt to reveal some leg. Add to that the big hair and just a hint of cleavage, you have the cover pose that many young stars have held throughout Cosmo’s twelve years in the Philippines. Today, Cosmo continues to excite readers by featuring not just the up-and-coming young stars in showbiz, but also some of the most controversial stars in the industry.

This July, Cosmopolitan encourages women to face life fearlessly by featuring the controversial Katrina Halili on the cover. Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Zo Aguila points out, “Our readers, just like Katrina, face a lot of drama in their lives. While their cases are not as high profile, the pain brought on by their individual scandals is just as grave.”

Aguila hopes that Katrina’s exclusive tell-all interview will inspire readers to face their own problems head-on. “We want them to know that they can live through their personal hurdles—yes, no matter how damaging they may be. All it takes is the courage of a fearless spirit to rise after a fall,” she says.

Aside from featuring controversial women on their cover, Cosmopolitan has also had the honor of being the first to have Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera pose on any magazine cover wearing a swimsuit—both welcomed the summer as Angel posed in March 2008 while Marian followed suit exactly one year later. Angel returned to the cover of Cosmopolitan this year together with Piolo Pascual, as they became Cosmo’s first-ever cover couple last February.

Through the years, Cosmo has also had an eye for turning Tinseltown’s teenyboppers into full-fledged Cosmo women. Stars like Maja Salvador, Rhian Ramos, and Sarah Geronimo are hardly the first names that come to mind when one talks of Cosmo cover girls, but Cosmo has been able to reveal their fun and fearless sides, proving that they have what it takes to grace the cover of the country’s number one women’s magazine. Since posing for Cosmopolitan, these actresses have been given meatier roles in show business and even more opportunities to hone their craft. The latest young star to join this roster of Cosmo girls is Kim Chiu, whose cover last April was her first-ever for a women’s magazine.

Cosmopolitan is available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide.
