Production Requirements

General Specifications

  • Registration and trim marks must appear on all ads, located 6mm outside the trim area.
  • A minimum of 10mm on each edge is required on all bleeds advertisements especially for saddle stitch magazine.
  • All reverse text must be no less that 10pt type or made up for more than two colors. Small type with fine serifs should be avoided.
  • It is recommended that where colors overlap on each other, the dominant color must be enlarged (or reverse choked) to create a slight overlap of the two colors that connect. This will help minimize the effect of print misregistration.
  • Where solid black backgrounds are to be created together with reverse text, a cutback 40%-50% stipple of cyan is recommended to reinforce the solid black print.
  • Large, solid black areas and text over 36 points should use Rich Black to prevent color to look gray. Rich Black consists of 40% Cyan, 30% Magenta, 30% Yellow, 100% Black. For regular body text, do not use Rich Black.
  • If you have small, thin text on your layout, it is STRONGLY recommended that you do not use 4-color build black. Although, using 4-color black is recommended on large areas, using 4-color text on small areas will make your text blurry and at times, unreadable.
  • The maximum total ink coverage should fall between 280% and 330%.
  • Fonts: Only postscript Type Fonts are supported. No True Type Fonts.
  • Required ICC profile is ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc profile using Fogra 39L characterization dataset.
  • All colors must conform to ISO 12647-2 color standard.

  • Image resolution must be 300 dpi with camera raw images to be converted to Adobe RGB 1998 color space.
